Claw & prize machines
Claw Machine Space Requirements for a Small Retail Corner
Plan a small claw machine corner using cabinet dimensions, player access, refill-door movement, queues and the complete delivery route.
How much space does a small claw machine need?
A small commercial claw machine needs space for its cabinet, a player collecting the prize, and staff opening refill or service doors. The cabinet footprint is only the first filter; there is no universal clearance that approves every retail corner. Put these areas on one measured plan and test the busiest checkout and replenishment movements before choosing the position.
The supplier lists 50 × 61 × 150 cm for the Compact Single Claw and 49 × 77 × 203 cm for the Pink Full-Height Claw. Confirm front width and depth before drawing either footprint: the sequence follows the supplier's labels. Obtain door travel and packed dimensions separately for the operating layout and delivery route.
Draw four layers on a measured plan
Use a scaled sketch with fixed shelving, doors, checkout positions and the route people already follow. Add the four layers below in different colours. Measure doors and drawers in their usable positions so their movement appears on the plan.
- Layer A: the confirmed cabinet footprint, including projecting controls and any required support or stabilising parts.
- Layer B: the player position, prize collection position and space for a waiting companion. Use a physical mock-up and venue review to establish the required area.
- Layer C: the full door swing and technician position for refill, cash collection and model-specific servicing.
- Layer D: the protected route to the outlet and the path from delivery entrance to final position. Mark cables and any level changes.
Run a shop-floor mock-up
With the venue's permission, mark the cabinet outline on the floor and place a temporary sign at the control position. Walk the checkout, replenishment and cleaning routes. Have one person stand at the controls and another collect a prize. Note where someone must turn sideways, enter a queue or obstruct a door.
Mark those pinch points on the sketch and revise the position with the venue manager. Include the venue's accessibility and fire-route requirements in that review. A workable corner allows normal customer and staff movement as well as room for the cabinet.
A hypothetical corner decision
Suppose a buyer measures a free rectangle of 90 × 110 cm. A 50 × 61 cm cabinet may fit after its front orientation is confirmed, but the player position and refill-door movement still have to fit around it. If either overlaps the checkout route, move the cabinet or reserve more space before approving the location.
If the venue can reserve additional player space in front without blocking circulation, the compact model may remain on the shortlist. If the route cannot be altered, consider a different position. Selecting a taller model because it has a similar listed width would leave the delivery height and service access questions unanswered.
Place power and signs deliberately
Specify the destination voltage, frequency and plug, then have the qualified venue installer review the supply and cable route against the quoted build. The supplier's 110–220 V label does not confirm that one delivered version accepts the entire range. Keep cables clear of customer movement and use the actual electrical information for the installation.
Check that the customer can see the price, play instruction and support contact from the marked position. Photograph reflections on the glass under actual shop lighting. Place promotional signage where it explains the offer without covering the prize chamber, controls or service access.
Send a complete space brief
The space brief can fit on one annotated sheet: top-down sketch, four layer labels, doorway measurements, outlet location and photos from the player and staff positions. Add the prize sample and machine quantity. Complete the plan with the model's front orientation, door travel, ventilation, service approach and packed size.
